Trip Overview
We were in London with family the week before Christmas, and it was simply magical! Shimmering lights, winter air, and that unmistakable holiday glow that only London seems to do so effortlessly. All in all, truly such a wonderful place to be at that time of year.
Full Itinerary
Westminster Abbey: Such an impressive working institution. Certainly celebrates the myth of individuals imho.
British Museum: A crowd pleaser for my family (including Secret Maps Exhibit).
Tate Britain: For my taste, been going to the wrong Tate! Turner and Constable Exhibit was a tour de force of learning about the two painters.
V&A Marie Antoinette Exhibit including smells from that time period (including her prison time!); True to size marble replicas (every famous sculpture in one room)
Dickens Museum: Great 24th event where the employees and volunteers pretend that they are in Victorian England for Xmas.
National Gallery: Always incredible; Although the exhibit of Neo-Impressionists seemed forced. I didn’t see Wright of Derby (candlelight paintings) but Kris enjoyed.
The Design Museum: Wes Anderson exhibit was fabulous for fans! Many props from all his different movies.
Courtauld: Incredible impressionist collection; For us Californians, fun to see Wayne Thiebaud (!) exhibit
The Royal Academy of Arts: Kerry James Marshall Exhibit is worth seeing and hearing it is moving to Paris.
Indian Ink: Tom Stoppard play, poignant.
Importance of Being Earnest: Oscar Wilde still has it 🙂 Lots of stars (Stephen Fry, Olly Alexander, Hugh Dennis etc).
High Noon: Billy Crudup starring in play based on Gary Cooper drama -wish there were more dance scenes
A Christmas Carol at Old Vic: Incredible– small circular and they nailed it! Much audience involvement.
Devil Wears Prada: Fashion fun.
Abba Show
Kew Gardens for Xmas
Hologram Abba band– wild!
Kew: 3 km walk was fabulous — all lit up! (Fyi, SF botanical gardens supposedly has something similar)
