Trip Overview

Mother/Daughter trip to Stockholm and Copenhagen.

Full Itinerary

I flew from San Francisco, connecting in Copenhagen to Stockholm on SAS. My daughter met me in Stockholm from New York. Since the days are long and light in the summer, we spent many late nights walking through the streets of Stockholm.

Highly recommend Tradition (restaurant) for its Swedish meatballs and other foods. Reservation necessary, although we walked in and ate at the bar, excellent food and service in the Old Town (Gamla Stan).

We stayed at the Grand Hotel, a most convenient location to everything and overlooking the water.

We were in Stockholm for a conference, so our days were full of interesting meetings. However, we were treated to lots of side activities.

Day One. We had a private guide walk us through Old Town and later that evening had a ton of fun at the ABBA museum (we walked back to the hotel from the museum…beautiful evening stroll). Traditions for dinner.

Day Two. Boat ride, with lunch, in the Archipelago. Nobel Prize Museum.

Day Three. National Museum. Swim in the Baltic Sea (cold!). Bike ride through the city. House of Nobility. Concert House.

Day Four. Boat to Fotgrafiska and walked back to the hotel. Vasa Museum

Day Five. Train to Copenhagen. Five hours, very convenient and most likely faster than taking the one hour plane ride.

Stayed at the Hotel d’Angleterre, excellent service (the concierge literally ran from the hotel to a restaurant to make us a reservation) and location. Spent the entire day walking the streets, beginning with lunch in Nyhavn (open faced sandwiches), the Royal Palace, the Little Mermaid, the Round Tower, Tivoli Gardens, dinner at Esmee (excellent!) and so much more. It’s a very walkable city (watch out for the bikers…they have right of way!) and the best way to see it is by foot. Easy access to and from the airport or train station (taxi or metro).
