Trip Overview

Had a wonderful couple of days exploring the Big Sur / Monterey area, with great hiking at Big Sur, a visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and plenty of playing on the beach, swimming and fun for the kids.

Full Itinerary

We set out early for Big Sur, and did a beach hike out to the beach at Andrew Molera State Park, and the kids did some heavy duty wading. Then we stopped for some lunch at the Big Sur River Inn. The food was reasonable, although this is not one of the most scenic restaurants in the area. We needed to feed some hungry mouths! Headed back to Monterey to our lodgings at Asilomar. Great to be able to walk down to the beach and hang out on the Asilomar grounds, although the rooms are expensive for what they are–adequate but a bit out of date. The next day we spent a lot of time at the Aquarium, and had time for swimming in the afternoon, before heading out to dinner. The Beach House at Lovers Point is pretty good, again we were not going for gourmet food, but it was tasty and the setting is nice over the water.
